Forsyth County Schools: Suicide Prevention
Meet Karin and Gail.
Karin and Gail are social workers who facilitate a suicide intervention-training program for Forsyth County Schools.
In 2018, 1,800 Forsyth County students contemplated suicide. Karin and Gail are working to lower that number.
They host cohorts to train other social workers, school counselors, school staff, and community agencies how to recognize the signs of suicide and how to intervene in the most helpful way for the student.
Thanks to 2019’s Be Rich donations, Forsyth County Schools was given the funds to help cover the costs of certifying Karin and Gail as co-trainers for this program.
Because of the program’s design, our gift doesn’t stop with Karin and Gail. It impacts every person they train as well as every individual with whom they intervene. So far, they have trained over 100 people. Talk about a gift with layers of impact!
In Gail’s words:
“I want to send a big THANK YOU to you and everyone who contributed to make this possible. You have helped us to better support our students as well as our staff to feel more confident in being able to respond to students who are struggling with big feelings and the choice to find a connection to life.”
Thank you for making a difference.
