La Casa de mi Padre: Counseling Program

La Casa de mi Padre serves one of the most vulnerable populations in El Salvador. They welcome children who have been removed from their families due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment and work to set them on a path toward healing and hope.

Thanks to your generosity through the Be Rich campaign, you’ve helped La Casa expand their counseling service and better address the needs of the children in their care—children like Katherine.

After Katherine’s mother died, she and her three sisters spent time bouncing between family members before entering the residential program at La Casa de mi Padre. Like many children who come to La Casa after surviving difficult upbringings, Katherine was very reserved, distrustful, and had low self-esteem.

Fortunately for Katherine and her sisters, La Casa prioritizes addressing the mental and emotional needs of the children they serve. Katherine had access to professional counselors and caregivers who are trained in trauma-informed care.

She even joined La Casa’s equine therapy program, where her interactions with the horses and counselors helped her develop self-control and self-confidence. Her instructor could see the change in her attitude and demeanor as Katherine grew in perseverance and patience.

Last year, through the Be Rich campaign, you invested funding in La Casa’s counseling programs so they could serve even more children like Katherine. Your generosity allowed their counselors to continue their training with workshops and courses. You funded the equine therapy program that has been instrumental in helping children achieve their educational, physical, and emotional goals. You also funded outside psychiatric care for children who need more specialized help than what La Casa can offer—ensuring that no child goes without care.

There are countless more children across El Salvador—just like Katherine—who need the loving family environment and mental health resources that La Casa provides. Thanks to you, they can continue to meet the needs of the children they serve and offer them even more opportunities to heal.
