Home of Hope

Sometimes homelessness hides in plain sight, especially with a single mom. A family might manage to live out of their car for a while or hop from one friend’s couch to another, all without anyone ever knowing. Home of Hope exists to walk alongside these families and help them get back on their feet.

Home of Hope provides onsite housing, life-skills classes, job-search assistance, and more for moms and children experiencing homelessness. Case managers work closely with moms to help them secure a job and move their families out of homelessness.

One of the biggest obstacles to getting a job is the need for and affordance of childcare. The need is cyclical: the mom needs childcare to work at a job, and she needs the job to afford childcare. This limits job search efforts and, unfortunately, Home of Hope has not been in a position to address this specific need.

However, this limitation radically changed for some families because of your generosity. After losing her job during the pandemic, Home of Hope was able to serve a mom and her three children for a few months while she searched for and secured a new job. A lack of skills wasn’t what kept her from a job. It was the provision of childcare that was a game-changer. She was able to save money and transition into a new home!

Thanks to your generosity during last year’s Be Rich campaign, childcare was funded for 26 families. Over 50 children have been cared for because of your support. “We had not been able to [provide childcare] until having these funds,” said Renita Pollard, Home of Hope’s Director of Operations, “and it’s made a huge impact on our program to better assist our moms.” Thank you for being FOR your community!
