Chattahoochee Elementary School: Book Vending Machine

When Chattahoochee Elementary School staff started brainstorming ideas to improve student reading scores, they knew they had to think outside the box.

Enter: The Bookworm Vending Machine.

As a Title 1 school, Chattahoochee has many students with limited access to books at home. The Bookworm Vending Machine is the perfect solution to get new books into students' hands and get them excited about reading.

Students earn tokens through good behavior and displaying the school values of being “respectful, responsible champions.” Then they can redeem their tokens for a brand-new book to take home!

“The vending machine meets two goals for us,” said Chattahoochee Elementary Principal Jennifer Williams. “It celebrates the positive behaviors of our students, and it also promotes literacy, which is a huge school goal.”

Thanks to your generosity through last year’s Be Rich campaign, we were able to make this dream a reality for Chattahoochee Elementary. Your donations funded not only the vending machine but also 200 new books to stock it with.

“It’s amazing to have a community partner that helps us reach our school goals,” said Jennifer. “Our students are so excited about this opportunity!”
