Meet Dareen.

Dareen is a translator working with Friends of Refugees. She’s a part of their Embrace program, which helps guide refugee mothers through the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.

As you can imagine, these women are facing what can be an overwhelming and even scary situation. After fleeing their home countries, they find themselves with limited resources living in a new culture with an unfamiliar language—and a baby on the way.

That’s where Dareen comes in. Through Embrace, she provides classes in several languages to prepare women for what they can expect during the pregnancy and birth process. She teaches them more about prenatal nutrition, helps them make informed decisions about their child’s birth, and also sets them up with a translator to be in the delivery room.

Thanks to 2019’s Be Rich donations, Friends of Refugees received a financial gift toward their operating expenses. This means Dareen and her co-workers will be able to provide peace, comfort, and clarity for even more mothers as they navigate pregnancy in a new culture.
