Family Promise of Forsyth: Box Truck

Family Promise of Forsyth is on a mission to help families experiencing homelessness achieve sustainable independence. They offer temporary shelter to families in need while helping them search for stable jobs and independent housing.

For three to seven months, these families and individuals call Family Promise home, and that home is always on the move. Family Promise uses a rotational housing model that partners with local churches and organizations to host their families a week at a time. This approach limits the expense and upkeep of a permanent facility and allows the whole community to get involved in supporting their neighbors.

Executive Director Tina Huck explained what she loves about their model of mobile housing:

“It’s twofold. One, the community comes together to serve one another. Second, it puts our families in contact with people who love on them and love them right where they are without judgment. You see a change in the families. It’s so much more than just a place to sleep.”

For over seven years, Family Promise of Forsyth has seen incredible results with this model. And for over seven years, they’ve been using the same used box truck to transport their mobile shelter items each week.

“The truck is everything,” Tina told us. “We couldn’t do what we do without it.”

However, as their current truck grew increasingly unreliable, it impacted how well Family Promise could serve their clients. So last year, thanks to your generosity, we were able to give Family Promise the funds to buy a truck they could count on.

Each week, this new truck is loaded up with beds, supplies, and personal items for the families and driven to another location, where another group of neighbors serves their clients.

“Without the support we get through Be Rich, there’s so much we couldn’t have done,” said Tina. “But this one most of all. Without this truck, we might not have been able to continue our services. It means so much to the families and children in our community.”

Family Promise represents not just one nonprofit but an entire community coming together to support their neighbors in need. Thank you for being a part of that effort and keeping Family Promise on the move!
