The Drake House: More Than Four Walls
For a single mother experiencing homelessness, finding an apartment is only the first step. What she and her children need just as much is someone in their corner: a community who shows up, checks in, and helps them navigate everything that comes with rebuilding a life.
That's the idea behind Neighbor to Neighbor, a sponsorship program at The Drake House, which works in North Fulton to help mothers and children experiencing homelessness through temporary housing and hands-on support. And this year, your generosity through Be Rich put that idea to work.
In the Neighbor to Neighbor program, each apartment starts as an empty unit. Sponsors paint it, furnish it, and add the kind of homey touches that make a house feel like home from the moment a family walks in. But the heart of the sponsorship isn’t the furniture—it’s the people who come with it.
Sponsoring an apartment means agreeing to walk alongside a mom and her children during their time in the program. Mom advocates might help with parenting skills, cooking, or time management—the everyday tools that make self-sufficiency feel possible. Child advocates show up as a trusted adult, helping them get school supplies, playing games, or sitting down to help with a school project.
That’s what separates The Drake House from an ordinary lease. It’s more than four walls and a place to sleep. It’s a community of people paying attention, who notice when a mom is struggling or when a child needs encouragement, and who stay present through the hard, in-between season of finding stable ground again.
Thanks to your generosity, North Point sponsors an apartment at The Drake House and connects families with volunteer advocates who walk alongside them as they move from homelessness toward a more stable, hopeful future.
