North Gwinnett CO-OP: Vegetables and Fruit

Walk the produce section at the North Gwinnett Co-Op and you'll notice something: the shelves aren't stocked with generic fruits and vegetables. They're stocked with what the Co-Op's families actually cook with—the specific ingredients of home.

That's on purpose. Many of the families the Co-Op serves are learning to live in a new country or simply want to stay connected to their culture. For them, these foods are more than groceries. They’re a taste of home in the middle of so much that's new and unfamiliar.

They're also what families skip first at the grocery store, because fresh produce is expensive. Thanks to funding through Be Rich, the Co-Op has kept fruits and vegetables within reach of the families they serve.

"We are ensuring that our families have access to nutritious fruits and vegetables and helping them make healthier choices,” explains Kim Phillips, North Gwinnett Co-Op ED. “Often the kids don’t wait to even leave the store to indulge! They take the fruit right out of the bag and start eating it," she says.

Healthy choices made easy. Familiar flavors made affordable. Thank you for helping to make sure that in a season of so much unfamiliarity, home is still on the shelf.
