Lighthouse Family Retreat: Community of Care

Meet Angie.

Angie works at Lighthouse Family Retreat, an organization committed to strengthening families living through childhood cancer by offering restorative retreats and helpful resources.

For over 20 years, Lighthouse has been hosting week-long beach retreats for families living through childhood cancer. During the week, families experience physical, emotional, and spiritual rest. They rediscover joy through celebration and gratitude, and they begin a journey of restoration—the restoration of dreams, relationships, and hope.

Outside of their retreats, Lighthouse is always looking for ways to expand and address more of the unique challenges these families face. Angie leads their latest expansion, the Community of Care program, which you helped fund through your generosity to the Be Rich campaign.

Families navigating childhood cancer need a lot of support. Whether it’s a meal in the freezer on a busy night or reliable childcare for siblings during doctor’s appointments, it takes a network of support to keep a family on their feet during such a difficult time. Sadly, most feel they’ve exhausted their existing network in the first six months of their child’s treatment. In reality, however, treatment can last two or three years.

The Community of Care is designed to fill this gap by pairing families with a team committed to walking with them long-term. It builds a network of support around each family so that they always have someone to turn to (or someone who is turning to them) for practical help and encouragement.

Because of your generosity, Lighthouse was able to hire Angie and give her some of the resources she needs to make this program a reality. Thanks for helping Lighthouse continue to serve and support families all over the country!
