Good Samaritan Health Center Of Cobb

Cobb County has the least amount of medical insurance per county in the state of Georgia. Right down the street, there may be people who have never been to the dentist, have diabetes and never taken insulin, and have severe medical needs that can’t be solved through telehealth or without insurance.

Thanks to Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb, one family can tell a different story. After a stroke left her husband paraplegic and welfare hospitals could no longer help him without insurance, a wife reached out to Good Sam for help in caring for her husband. She and her children just couldn’t manage his illness and infection on their own. A new doctor at Good Sam was able to travel to the family’s home, help them care for the husband, and keep him out of the hospital by providing regular exams and medical care. Because of this onsite care, the husband hasn’t needed to return to the hospital in eight months.

Good Sam regularly provides medical, dental, spiritual, and behavioral care to 3,000 uninsured or underinsured patients each year. Thanks to your generosity in last year’s Be Rich campaign, you fully funded the salary of this new doctor for an entire year. This added position allowed Good Sam to increase its capacity of patients from 3,000 to 4,000 people in 2021, as well as increase the age range of their patients and their ability to make house calls for patients unable to travel. As of July 31, they’ve been able to treat almost 2,500 patients and are well on their way to serving 4,000 patients, the most they’ve ever been able to provide medical care for.

“It’s a praise and a prayer request,” CEO Cyrl Kitchens said of the high number. “East Cobb's faithfulness and availability is transforming lives through Good Sam. We’re candidly in awe because we couldn’t have done that on our own.”
